Chinese Bulk Herbs – Forsythia (Lian Qaio)

Forsythia, also known as Lian Qiao in chinese medicine,i is used to detoxify the body, and to treat fevers, headaches, and excessive thirst.

Lian Qiao grows as a large shrub, which often suspends its branches and flowers. This suspending quality is where the “suspensa” part of it’s name comes from. It has pale yellow flowers before fruiting.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
Clears Pathogenic Heat, reduces swelling and dissolves lumps.

Lian Qiao

Forsythia Fruit, weeping forsythia, golden-bell

Parts Used:
Dried fruit

Properties:
Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in property, acts on the Lung, Heart, and Gallbladder channels.
