Chinese Bulk Herbs – Sophora Flower (Huai Hua)

Sophora or Huai Hua is used for the treatment of hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, and headaches. It has also been used for improving eyesight caused by conjunctivitis.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
Huai Hua is used to remove heat from the blood, stop bleeding, and clear fire from the liver.

Properties:
Bitter and slightly cold

Cautions:
Huai Hua flower contains a chemical called cytosine, which is like nicotine and can be toxic when taken in large doses. It should not be taken for long periods of time. It should not be taken by women who are pregnant or nursing mothers.
