In Chinese medicine, Apricot Seed is used for reducing the severity of coughing, moistens the intestines and loosing the bowels. It works as a very good laxative. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure in animal testing

Calms cough; Calms dyspnea; Moistens the Intestines; Promotes bowel movement and apricot seed is considered to have bitter, warm and slightly toxic properties, and affects the Large Intestine and Lung meridians.

Cautions:
Apricot seed can cause dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea if too much is taken. It also should be used under the supervision of an herbal practitioner. It is no recommended for children or pregnant women. The American Herbal Products Association has given Xing Ren a class 3 rating.
Folk Lore:
Apricot seed can also be consumed raw, parched, or steamed. They are available whole, powdered, or extracted form. The can be crushed and used in a decoction.
