Over 200 years ago American herbalist Samuel Thomson created Composition Powder to raise the body’s temperature when a patient did not have enough vitality to rally and throw off disease. Dr. John Christopher learned about this warming formula in the 1940s from Dr. Nowell of the Dominion Herbal College. Since then,  Dr. Christopher’s Chest Formula has been used for treatment of coldness, respiratory diseases, and breathing difficulties both  chronic and acute. It has also been found helpful for inherited diseases, such as bronchial asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

During winter we are usually “stuck inside,” with lots of sniffling & sneezing and mucus build up. It’s important this time of year to get rest, wash hands frequently, drink plenty of fluids, and stay warm. If your body can’t warm up and you have congested breathing and sinuses, this formula can help you raise your inner heat, and throw off excess mucus and toxic build up (catarrh) in the respiratory and digestive tracts. Because “heat is life,” this Chest Formula can help the immune system by stimulating the lymphatics.

The properties of this formula include antimicrobial (anti-viral, bactericidal, and anti-septic) and has been used successfully, according to many herbalists, to treat acute respiratory diseases, such as laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, influenza, pleurisy, and asthma attacks.

Patients report this combination of herbs is also good for abdominal pain, gastrointestinal disorders, and colitis due to its warming action. Because it helps “equalize the circulation,” it can play a role in improving heart function, and circulation of blood. It has known to improve kidney and bladder problems due to its tonic nature.*
