Chinese Bulk Herbs – Frankincense (Ru Xiang)

Frankincense resin has been used for thousands of years as a part of Ayurvedic medicine although, recently Chinese medicine has found great use for it. Ru Xiang is an anti-inflammatory used to treat ulcers, colitis, arthritis, bursitis, and other inflamed conditions.

This herb can disperse and dredge qi and blood of Zang and Fu organs internally, penetrate and reach meridians and collaterals externally serving as a miraculous herb with actions of activating blood and alleviating pain.

This herb not only activates blood and alleviates pain but also resolves and dispels carbuncle and swelling, promotes tissue regeneration and heals wound. It is used both internally and externally as a key herb in department of traumatology.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
Invigorates the Blood to relieve pain, reduces swelling, and promotes tissue regeneration.

Chinese Name:
Ru Xiang

Common Names:
Frankincense, Mastic, olibanum-tree, Indian oli-banum, Salai guggul, Sallaki

Parts Used:
Gum resin

Properties:
Pungent and bitter in flavor, warm in property, acts on the Heart, Liver, and Spleen channels.

Cautions:
Do not use during pregnancy or if you have stomach problems with vomiting. Frankincense is considered safe when used as recommended however, there may be side effects from taking large amount that include diarrhea, skin rash and nausea.
