Chinese Bulk Herbs – Gentian Root (Long Dan Cao)
Gentian Root or Long Dan Cao is used to increase the appetite and treatment for stomach and liver problems. Test done in the 1950 showed Gentian represses the appetite to improve weight gain. More recent studies confirm these findings as well as finding on using Long Dan Cao for hiccups caused by drinking alcohol.
Gentian can be added to elder flower, verbena, cowslip flower, and sorrel for the treatment of sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses). It also used in other healing herbs for malaria, diarrhea, gastritis, heartburn, and vomiting.
Clinical Use (Chinese):
Clears ascending liver fire, headache, red eyes, fever, spasm, and convulsions.
