Chinese Bulk Herbs – Gypsum (Shi Gao)

Gypsum contains hydrated calcium sulfate which is what plaster of Paris is made from. You can use Gypsum as a poultice for wounds and burns. It removes the heat from the wound. You can also use it for bleeding gums, sores in the mouth or take it internally for high fevers without chills.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
The cold property of the drug clears away the heat the pungent flavor expels the heat and sweet flavor promotes the production of the body fluid.
