Min Shan Liu Wei Di Huan Wan

Functions: Liu Wei di Huang Wan Tonifies Liver and Kidney Yin, Clears Deficiency Heat, Secures the Jing-essence. Six Flavor Teapills also help with dry skin, nails, and scalp, lower body soreness, fatigue, dizziness, and pain.

Indications:

Kidney and Liver Yin deficiency presenting with mild night sweats, five palms heat, afternoon fever, thirst, dry mouth, throat and mucous membranes, dry skin, nails and scalp, soreness and weakness in the low back and legs, particularly the knees, inability to stand for long periods of time, pain in the heel or the sole of the foot, calf cramps, headache, dizziness, vertigo, light-headedness, fatigue, insomnia, mental agitation, poor concentration, dark rings under the eyes, tinnitus, diminished hearing, poor vision, toothache, loose teeth, spermatorrhea, nocturnal emissions, leukorrhea, difficult urination, frequent urination, if severe may be accompanied by wasting and thirsting disorder with excessive urination. Also used for delayed development in children. Tongue: red, tender or dry and cracked, scanty coat or no coat Pulse: thin, rapid, small.**

Biomedical Applications:

Menopausal hot flashes, anovulation, amenorrhea, polycystic ovarian disease, functional uterine bleeding, low libido, sexual dysfunction, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, nephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidneys, cystitis, chronic urinary tract infection, pulmonary tuberculosis, infantile underdevelopment, rheumatism, optic neuritis, optic nerve atrophy, retinitis, retinopathy, periodontal abscess, hearing loss, short term memory loss, senility, anxiety disorders, clinical depression, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivity, chronic fatigue syndrome.*

Standard Dosage: 8 pills, 3 x day.

Clinical Dosage:

Administer Liu Wei di Huang Wan half an hour before or one hour after eating. In severe cases or in the initial phases of treatment, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills 3 times per day, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used long-term for several weeks to several months. May be used over the course of several years. Monitor for Spleen Qi deficiency. For weakened digestion, administer with Bao He San/Wan or Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi San/Wan.**

Ingredients:

Rehmannia glutinosa root-prep, Dioscorea opposita rhizome, Cornus officinalis fruit, Paeonia suffruticosa root-bark, Poria cocos fungus, Alisma plantago aquatica rhizome. – Shu di huang, Shan yao, Shan zhu yu, Mu dan pi, Fu ling, Ze xie.

Cautions & Contraindications:

Contraindicated during the early stages of acute illness such as cold and flu, or during an acute infection. Use with caution in Spleen deficient patients with a tendency to loose stools, diarrhea, poor appetite or chronic digestive weakness. Use with caution in cases of stagnation of phlegm or dampness.**
