Chinese Bulk Herbs – Phellodendron (Huang Bai)
Phellodendron bark is used to treat are diarrhea, dysentery, swollen joints in the legs, and jaundice.
It can be used for urinary tract infections accompanied by difficult and painful urination with added herbs of Dan Zhu Ye and Guan Mu Tong.
Clinical Use (Chinese):
Phellodendron bark is often used in conjunction with other herbs, such as Atractylodes, Akebia stems, and
Plantago Seed.

Properties:
Phellodendron bark is considered to have bitter and cold properties.
Cautions:
Phellodendron should not be taken by patients diagnosed with spleen and/or stomach problems. High doses of this bark may cause nausea and vomiting. It should not be taken during pregnancy.
