Chinese Bulk Herbs – Schizonepeta (Jing Jie)

Schizonepeta or Jing Jie is traditionally used to stop bleeding and expel wind or gas. If you have headaches, chills, and a fever Schizonepeta will help with these symptoms. It will also stop bleeding in the rectum and uterine bleeding. Studies show it make blood clot faster, hence, stop or slowing bleeding. It has been used to decrease inflammations and swelling, as well.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
Acts on the lung and liver channels to expel wind, stop bleeding and promote rash eruptions.

schizonepeta tenuifolia

Jing Jie

Schizonepeta, Chinese Catnip

Parts Used:
Aerial Portion and Flowers

Properties:
Pungent in flavor, warm in property. Schizonepeta contains several chemical compounds, including menthol, menthone, cineole, hesperidin, caffeic acid, and schizonodiol.

Cautions:
Should not be used by anyone that is pregnant or breastfeeding. It should be used if anyone has a blood disorder and if used to stop bleeding it should be carbonized or baked until yellow and black in color before using.
