Traditional Chinese Medicine
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (also known as TCM), there are four main pillars for treatment: Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Massage (Tuina), and Exercise (Qigon and Tai Chi). At our clinic we are proud to offer all four pillars to treat chronic and acute conditions, relieve pain, alleviate stress, and foster overall wellness and balance in our patient’s lives. Below we take a look at each of the four pillars in more depth, as well as a few other techniques we employ to keep you happy and healthy.
Services Provided
Acupuncture
Acupuncture, a fundamental practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine, entails delicately inserting ultra-thin needles into specific points on your body. Primarily employed for pain management, it is now gaining popularity for promoting overall well-being and stress relief. Today the value of this ancient medicine is recognized by many organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO).
Cupping
Cupping Therapy, an ancient healing practice, involves placing specialized cups on your skin to create suction. People seek cupping therapy for various reasons, including pain relief, inflammation reduction, improved blood flow, relaxation, and overall well-being. The cups used in cupping therapy can be made of materials such as glass, bamboo, earthenware, or silicone. Although it’s currently trendy, cupping therapy has ancient origins, dating back to Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha, an ancient healing technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, entails gently scraping the skin using a smooth-edged tool. This therapeutic practice aims to enhance circulation and alleviate chronic pain. When a trained professional applies pressure and strokes the skin, it results in the emergence of small, red, rash-like dots known as petechiae. Gua sha is a versatile approach, effective for treating pain throughout the body. Historically, Gua Sha has deep roots in Chinese culture, dating back to the Stone Age. It was often used to “scrape away illness” and has been documented in major medical texts since the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644).
Tuina Massage
Tuina, also known as tui-na, is a therapeutic massage and bodywork practice with ancient origins in China. It is revered as the oldest system of bodywork and holds a significant place within Traditional Chinese Medicine. This holistic approach aims to harmonize the body’s qi (vital life force) and promote overall well-being. Through skilled manipulation and targeted pressure on specific acupoints, tuina seeks to alleviate blockages, enhance circulation, and restore balance. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain or exploring ancient healing practices, tuina offers a fascinating blend of tradition and therapeutic benefits.
Qigong and Tai Chi
Qigong, originating in ancient China and Tibet, is a mind-body exercise form that seamlessly integrates meditation, controlled breathing, and gentle movement. Its purpose is to enhance energy, allowing the body to facilitate self-healing. This holistic practice has countless health-related benefits and is employed for various reasons. While Tai Chi and Qigong share similarities, they differ in approach. Qigong is a more meditative process, often involving repetitive single movements. In contrast, Tai Chi encompasses a broader sequence of flowing movements. Both practices, however, contribute to overall well-being by harmonizing mind, body, and spirit.
Yin Yang Body Type Assessment
Yin Yang Body Type Assessment is a body type system that focuses on an axis of yin (curved, soft) versus yang (angular, structured). The system breaks clients into 13 body types, each based on the balance between yin and yang. People with more yin tend to have soft, curvy features, while those with more yang are defined by their sharp, angular lines. The system is used for body changes, composition assessment, prescription of diet and exercise programs, and monitoring of age-related changes in body.
