Chinese Bulk Herbs – Raw Rehmannia (Sheng Di Huang)

Raw Rehmannia is normally used in treatments for high fever, thirst, mouth and tongue sores, irritability, flushing of the cheeks, dry stool, and nosebleeds. It’s also been used for blood in the urine, uterine bleeding, and low-grade fevers, hemorrhage, and insomnia.
It can cool blood, stop bleeding, nourish yin especially for nutrient-yin deficiency or bleeding due to blood heat in nutrient-blood system and it excels in clearing heat especially in nutrient-blood system in warm diseases.
It is commonly indicated for hematemesis, emptysis, hemoptysis, hemafecia, hematuria, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis caused by excessive heat in zang-fu organs forcing blood because of its actions of stopping bleeding and cooling blood as well.
It can nourish yin, clear heat as well as nourish yin in zang-fu organs to purge fire, moisten dryness and promote fluid production, so it excels in treating thirsty and constipation in dryness-heat syndrome due to yin-deficiency especially for stomach yin deficiency by its action of promoting fluid production.

Clinical Use (Chinese):
Clears heat and cools blood; nourishes Yin and blood and generates fluids. Cools upward blazing heart fires.

Cautions:
Do not use during pregnancy or where there is an unbalance of damp phlegm, spleen imbalances, or deficient Yang.

It’s contraindicated in cases of diarrhea, abdomen distention due to spleen deficiency.
