The purpose of wholistic nutrition is to remove stress from the body and assist in healing. Each individual has different needs based on his or her metabolism and constitution. There is no one size fits all diet for healing and living. Our role as health advisors is to help the patient navigate through a maze of ideas and find the most appropriate diet for his or her healing.
Our philosophy is that nutrition for healing should be a simple process. The concepts we use to help our clients include:
Supplementation – giving the body missing vitamins, nutrients, minerals, and enzymes that it needs to heal.
Cleansing – giving the body rest from processing overrefined foods.
Balancing – choosing between cooked or raw foods, food combinations, and the right ratio of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to bring the body back to health from extremes of high or low metabolism.
Such concepts are drawn from traditional systems of healing such as Chinese Medicine, Macrobiotics (Japan), and Ayurveda (India). Other ideas we use come from our experience with vegetarianism, herbal food combinations, and raw foods, juicing, cleansing, and fasting.
Whole foods promote health and wellness. The public at large is becoming interested in foods for health, performance, and healing. Many people when eating healthy foods feel they have more energy. The body supplied with whole foods also has more energy to heal. Our experience has shown that this is true.
It should be noted that whole foods can be eaten in the absence of symptoms, disease, and diagnosis. There is still need for care when considering a whole foods diet for healing. Medical conditions should be diagnosed by doctors and patients should be educated in the standards of medical nutrition treatment for diseases (like diabetes) before trying alternative diets.
